Thursday is coming Makati. Thursday. Thursday! THURSFUCKINGDAY! I thought I would die without seeing most of the bands that I grew up with play but no they're coming here one by one. MCR came here recently but I didn't go since i was never a big fan for their music. Also Falloutboy visited. I would've gone but they probably wouldn't play anything from their first album which I loved. There was even a rumor going around that paramore would be coming here. Something that my Lil sis would watch. Makes me wonder who would drop by next. Actually, why would those bands even bother going here? It bugs the shit out of me but its about time they dropped by here. But why now? Why not years ago when people were still into that particular scene? I need an answer soon.
Would I go watch Taking back sunday if they were to visit here? I would have if they came here circa Tell All your Friends or even Where you want to be. But their latest album is nothing and nowhere near to their previous work that I loved. So maybe I wont go but how often do bands like these take the plane to go here? Thats a point I bring up often whenever rumors of any big event like this starts spreading. Would I go spend 1500 pesos for a band that I would have wanted to see years ago play now? The scene was so much more better that it was now.
Wait what am I saying? The scene here was never that good. The only music nowadays that people are talking about is A Skylit Drive and Black Dahlia Murder. If you don't listen to loud hardcore music don't even bother hanging around because people will really just stare at you or make some snide remark if you play something like, I dont know, Death cab for cutie or Mogwai or if they mention a song from a band Im listening to now that I dont know, they'll think that they know more than me about this particular genre or whatever. The scene today is all about stroking your music boners and comparing wang sizes to the guy your with. "Hey i like this band" "Oh i have a cd of theirs" " no wai, ive been to their shows". Nowadays if you want to be known you have to follow the formula of hanging out with this guy, knowing this kind of music plus keeping up to date with the fashion and banging this girl and everyone wants to have the 100 Group Message in the morning achievement or the 5000 comments title. You know what, It IS an arms race.
If you've been going to the shows in manila lately you'll see that at least 4 guys will be wearing basketball jerseys a baseball cap and shorts reaching down to their shoes. Stuff that wannabe gangster fags would be wearing. At first I thought that that was just a way to mock the Malate hiphop crowd but now everyone else wants in on the action. everyone wants the cap or the shoes or the bling. Its officially not a joke, its now implemented in the book of "how to be cool". The Faux hiphop screamo fag. Back then nobody would want to be associated with the hiphop crowd. The fights at the shows would happen because of the genre discrimination thing happening. Now I'm not saying that we should bring that up again. I personally like the fact that I don't have to worry about what I have to wear outside the house anymore since its just so implemented into society nowadays, but still I wouldn't be wearing what the jocks of my old highschool would because I was never like them and will never be like them. What I'm trying to point out I guess is that back then we had this us against the world mentality thats now gone. The days of going against the mainstream because the mainstream is fucking bull is gone.Maybe This happened because everyone just wants to fit in now. They've given up. They have taken the promise of never changing and cast it away in the closet. They told me they would be my partner against the kids who think that starbucks is so great and trendy but now there they sit with the enemy. foregoing the everyday band shirt for they white stripped longsleeved shirt. Tuning into MTV all day and song by song forgetting what was so great about the days before. Now if your not a fashioncore fag your what you hated before.
I guess not everybody had a Kuya Fishbone in their life. A symbol that no matter how old you are you can still make sense and be in the scene.
I will go to that Thursday show and hopefully see some like-minded individuals and hopefully after that I would have moved into the city. Away from this province and into a new life and I don't know, Make a cafe that caters to the scene. Just a dream I'm wishing will come true.
